Sofia - Rila Monastery – Sofia
Rila Monastery is just in the heart of the Rila Mountain, about 120-km south of Sofia. The trip takes a whole day.
This monastery is a holy place for all Bulgarians, for it preserved their pride, national identity, faith and hope through the centuries. It was founded in the X c. by followers of the Bulgarian hermit saint Ivan Rilski. The monastery is one of the most significant cultural centers in Bulgaria, where through the century’s intensive spiritual, educational and creative activities flourished. It was in close contact with spiritual centers abroad. After a devastating fire, the monastery was completely rebuilt in the XIX c. it is the biggest renaissance monument in Bulgaria.

Sofia – Koprivshtitsa – Sofia
A BULGARIAN MUSEUM TOWN FULL OF LIFE, HARMONY AND BEAUTY
Koprivshtitsa is a town with protected architecture. It is situated in the Sushtinska Sredna Gora region, near the Topolnitsa river, and about 111-km east of Sofia.
During the Bulgarian renaissance it became a craft, educational and revolutionary center. The uprising in April of 1878 was announced here. It was the birthplace of many famous activists of that time – Liuben Karavelov, Georgi Benkovski, Naiden Gerov, and Dimcho Debelianov.
Every house here is a work of art: blue, yellow, red houses with verandahs, bay windows and eaves, rooms decorated with wood carvings, lit up by brightly colored rugs and cushions, its cobblestone streets, winding between high white stone walls and gardens full of greenery.
In such relaxing place you will have the chance to taste the delicious national cuisine. The trip takes a whole day.

Sofia - Plovdiv - Bachkovo Monastery – Sofia
The land in the Plovdiv cultural and historical region is protected from the Northern cold winds by the Stara Planina mountain. The Maritza river embraces it like a silver belt. The Rodopi mountains send their freshness and sweet scent of herbs from South.
Plovdiv is a town with a prominent ancient past, an open-air museum with fascinating architecture.
The Plovdiv theatre, opera, art galleries and museums have a long history of significant contribution to development of the Bulgarian national culture.
The Ancient theatre is situated on the slopes of Jambastepe – the South hill in the Trihulmieto. It was built in Trojan’s time (early II c.). It was architecturally rebuilt in the time of Marcus Avrelius and Lucius Verus’s. Some of the changes date from the later III c. In the IV c. the theatre was destroyed by a fire. This is one of the most significant Roman public buildings, found in Bulgaria. Today the theatre still stages different plays and shows.
Plovdiv ethnographical museum. It was built in 1847. It is a typical Plovdiv baroque symmetrical house.
And if you are in the mood of adventure, explore the famous Bachkovo Monastey (11th c.) nestled amidst the slopes of the Rhodope Mountains nearby. Enjoy the murals (17th c.) of the monastery's churches. The Bachkovski Monastery is situated 11 km South of Asenovgrad, 30 km away from Plovdiv, in the skirts of the Rodopi mountains. It was founded in 1083. The trip takes a whole day.
